Department of Neurology at Choithram Hospital is centred on a foundation of academic, clinical and research excellence and is committed to provide the highest quality of patient care. The department was started at Choithram Hospital in 1979 from inception of hospital & it was first full fledged neurology department in Central India. We have a panel of specialists including Neurologist, Neurosurgeon and Physical Therapists and Psychiatrist within the same facility to offer a true multidisciplinary approach for patient care. The department has grown to be one of the major centres of excellence in the state. The department offers comprehensive consultation, evaluation & clinical diagnostic studies & treatment of Neurological Disorders.

• Emergency Services

24 Hours Emergency Neurology Services & Care for most demanding cases 24 hours/day and 7 days/week. The largest group of patients seen at emergency department are the stroke patient. Other typical emergency cases like status epilepticus, GBS, severe headache are also dealed, with regularly.

• Stroke Care

We offer a comprehensive stroke prevention & treatment program. We also provide patient education, risk screening and acute or secondary prevention therapies. We also have facilities for intravenous thrombolytic therapy. All care is coordinated by highly specialised professional staff. We also have excellent Rehabilitation unit.

• General Neurology

General Neurology Clinic and outpatient department operates all days and is staffed by highly qualified and experienced Neurologist and provide ready access for patient with all neurological problems.

• Epilepsy Clinic

We offer extensive experience in diagnosing and treating epilepsy, syncope and related condition.

• Headache

A multidisciplinary team consisting of Neurologist, psychiatrist and ENT surgeon evaluates patients with Headache for accurate diagnosis & treatment.

• Other Facilities

We also provide comprehensive evaluation diagnosis & care for all neurological problems including Parkinson Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Dizziness/vertigo, Peripheral Neuropathy etc.


Neurology Department at Choithram Hospital was first in MP to start a full fledged Neurophysiology unit. It was started with 4 channel EMG machine by DISA and a EEG machine. Now this has been replaced by a channel Nikolet Viking IV machine in 2002. Department also has 8 and 16 channel EEG, one of the best machine along with video EEG facility > Thus Neurology Lab at Choithram Hospital is the most complete and were equipped in central India. Our Neurology Lab offers all specialised investigations in Neurology which includes

  • EEG (Electro Encephalography)
  • EMG (Electro Myography)
  • NCS (Nerve Conduction Study
  • Somato Sensory Evoked Potential
  • Visual Evoked Potential
  • Brainstem Evoked Responses Auditory

The Department is also supported by all Neuro Imaging modalities which include:

  • CT and CT Angio
  • MRI and MR Angio
  • Carotid Doppler Study


Department of Neurology at Choithram Hospital is recognized by National Board of Examination, New Delhi for DNB Neurology Programme since 1994. Since 1994, the department has successfully conducted DNB programme in Neurology and provided excellent Neurologist to society. All the three candidates who appeared in examination have passed.

High protein diet is essential for the growth of the children and teenagers. There are many protein rich snacks and food items like chana chatpata, sprouts chat, groundnut salted, ground nut chikki and laddoo, dry nuts, paneer and cheese snacks, soya chunks should be incorporated in the diet.

Patients with hyperacidity may be benefitted by small frequent meals, less spicy and oily food, plenty of water and daily walk.

Bottle feeding is very dangerous for infants and children

Person with high levels of uric acid should take moderate protein, plenty of fluids and should avoid fasting.

High fibre diet is good for maintaining health of GI tract. It may also prevent many life style disorder like constipation, piles, dyslipidemia, acidity etc.

One should not replace their meals by fast food/junk food.

Healthy diet contains all food groups like cereals, pulses, milk and milk products, vegetables, fruits and small amount of oil and sugar.

Iron deficiency anemia is very common in our community. People with anemia should consume plenty of green leafy vegetables, jaggery, dates, halu etc. Non vegetarians can consume liver, mutton along with full diet. 

Two teaspoon of flax seed consumption increases immunity and beneficial for diabetics, dyslipidemia, menopausal women and asthma patients.

Instead of taking excessive tea, coffee and cold drinks, one should take plenty of water, vegetable soups, butter milk, coconut water,  lemon juice because they are healthy drinks.

A feastful of nuts like groundnuts, almond, cashewnut, pistachionuts, walnuts, roasted chana are good for children’s health.

Regular intake of fast food and junk food may lead to many health problem like obesity constipation, piles, deficiency diseases cancer etc.

Consumption of methidana is good remedy for sugar control in diabetics.

Maintaining ideal body weight can prevent from many life style disorder like hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia and many other diseases.

Raw garlic, Almonds and walnuts can reduce LDL (bad cholesterol) and increase HDL (Good Cholestrol).

Change of cooking oil (soyabean oil / Saffola sunflower oil/mustard oil/olive oil / corn oil) after 2-3 months is good for lowering cholesterol levels.

Soyabean is very rich in protein and isoflavons. Menopausal women should incorporate 15-30 gms roasted soyabean in their diet.

4-5 servings of seasonal vegetables (including cooked vegetable, salads and soup) and 1-2 servings of seasonal fruits are good for health as it contains many vitamins, minerals fibres and antioxidants.
