Department Of Psychiatry And Psychology
Department of Psychiatry was started at Choithram hospital in 1979 with the beginning of the hospital. The department was first in the Madhya Pradesh in a private sector to start a full fledged unit.
The Department of Psychiatry provides a comprehensive integrated multi-disciplinary service in the management of patients with psychological or psychiatric disorders.
This unit offers intensive psychiatric care to individuals, including patients with underlying medical complications. A multidisciplinary treatment approach is used in which patients receive the benefit of working with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, psychiatric nurses, and occupational/recreational therapists. Extensive evaluation of treatment needs is performed for all individuals and typically includes pharmacotherapy, individual and group therapy, and milieu treatment in an intensive setting. With the help of faculty of Choithram College of Nursing we have started Multi-Disciplinary Behaviour Intervention Unit for the benefit of patients.

Inpatient psychiatric treatment
Focuses on the resolution of acute symptoms. Treatment consists of a wide range of somatic and psychosocial therapies, with a strong multidisciplinary approach. Patients in the General Psychiatric Unit are treated by a multidisciplinary team, including an attending psychiatrist, a resident doctor, a psychiatric nurse, a social worker, and an occupational therapist. This staff offers patients the most up-to-date treatments for acute psychiatric illnesses, including medications, electroconvulsive treatments, individual and group psychotherapies, family counseling, and a range of both psychotherapy and occupational therapy groups throughout the day. The treatment of adolescents includes an assessment from the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
Outpatient Behavioral Services
The Psychiatric Outpatient Service is a comprehensive and innovative ambulatory mental health service . We strive to provide the highest level of care to our patients following a full physical and psychosocial evaluation. Our services offer a complete array of psychiatric and psychological treatments, including cutting-edge forms of psychopharmacology; innovative types of individual, group, and family psychotherapy; psychological testing; and programs directed at assisting patients with special needs, such as addiction disorders or chronic mental illnesses. As an important service to our patients, we offer specialized divisions of Geriatric Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and Addiction Psychiatry. The Department of Psychiatry provides the following subspecialty services:
Neuropsychiatry
Provides evaluation and treatment for patients with organic brain lesions with psychiatric or psychological consequences.
Psychotherapy
Provides psychotherapy (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Psychodynamic Therapy) for patients with psychological or psychiatric disorders.
Stress Management
Provides stress management and lifestyle modification counselling.
Deaddiction Programme:
Outpatient substance abuse recovery program designed specifically for people who are struggling to find recovery from substances while also trying to deal with mental health issues. The program serves individuals who have either initiated or maintained some level of abstinence from substances or demonstrate a level of substance use that does not require more intensive treatment. Program staff focus on empowering people to make a recovery into a process in which they better themselves holistically: psychologically, physically, socially, and spiritually.

We provide an integrated physical/psychosocial treatment plan whenever possible. We assist patients in obtaining general and specialized medical care within the hospital and from community agencies that match the individual’s needs. In case of crises, psychiatric emergency services are available 24 hours a day.
